Below are the brief descriptions of different homeowner insurance policies
HO-1 – It is a very basic policy and will cover only 11 named perils or disaster, it will also not cover the personal belongings.
HO-2 – It covers all the 11 perils from HO-1, with some additional ones like damage from falling objects; damage from accidental plumbing, heating air-conditioner and household appliances. This insurance policy will also cover your personal belongings.
HO-3 – It is the most popular policy and covers a wide range of 16 most common perils. However, for the personal belongings, it only covers for some of the perils that are listed as like HO-2.
HO-5 – It is same as HO-3 as it covers a wide range of perils for the dwelling but the difference is the coverage of the personal property, it covers almost all perils unless it is explicitly listed in the policy.
HO-8 – This homeowner insurance policy is for the older homes whose replacement cost exceeds the actual cost and which not qualify for HO-3. The payout is comparatively less and the policy is quite cheap. It covers only 11 perils as like HO-1.
HO-4 – It is also known as the renter’s insurance policy. The homeowner policy will not cover tenant belongings and so the renters will need HO-4 as the policy. The HO-4 does not provide liability coverage.
HO-6 – Condos are like single homes and when it comes to homeowners insurance they need a policy that will cover their unit. HO-6 comes as a rescue having coverage of their structure, liability and belongings.
Co-op tenants also share a particular unit and will need HO-6 instead of HO-4 as their homeowner’s insurance.
HOA – Homeowner association is responsible for housing developments, condominium and complex. HOA policy will typically cover accidents, business crime, member dishonesty etc.
MHP– Mobile home policy is the policy for mobile or manufactured homes; it covers 11 perils as HO-1.
DF1 – If the home policy does not qualify any of the above ones, DF1 aka fire and extended coverage policy form will help. However, this type has very limited peril coverage.
